More Neuroplasticity: Use it & Improve It

Updated: Aug 27, 2019

When we talk about connections and forming new pathways we are really talking about neurons. Neurons are the cells in your brain that ‘spark’ and communicate with each other. After a brain injury, therapy tasks are designed to make these cells talk to each other as much as possible while also finding new ways for them to connect to help work and reorganize around the damage that was caused.

Use it and Improve it!

These connections don’t get strong after doing a task once, just like we all can’t look like Arnold Schwarzenegger after lifting only one weight. Repetition is key! Research shows us that the more we complete an activity – whether it focuses on making us use the impaired side of the body or trying to implement a new problem solving strategy – it is important to do it a lot. And as always, don’t forget to celebrate – #victorydance every time you do it better than you did the last time.

Little improvements lead to big wins!
